NIRSAL Plc Empowers Over 2,000 Farmers in 4 States

In a bid to boost agricultural productivity, NIRSAL Plc has completed a mid-year training program for lead farmers and extension agents in Imo, Sokoto, Kwara, and Oyo States. The program, which aimed to enhance farmers’ capacities to access and repay commercial loans, had over 2,000 participants.

The training focused on efficient models for fish production in Imo and Sokoto States, while Oyo and Kwara States concentrated on cassava production. State government representatives also attended the program.

NIRSAL Plc’s Head of Value Chain Capacity Development, Mr. Ibrahim Suleiman, stated that the program is part of the Technical Assistance offered to agricultural value chain actors under NIRSAL’s Technical Assistance pillar. He added that the training is expected to cascade to an estimated 6,000 farmers across the states.

The program received commendations from state government officials, including the Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development in Oyo State and the Special Adviser to the Kwara State Governor on Farmers’ Interventions.

Participants praised the program, saying they gained new insights and pledged to share them with their cooperative members. The training also covered the formation of functional cooperatives, readiness for possible protocol breaches, and early warning systems.

NIRSAL Plc, an initiative of the Central Bank of Nigeria, aims to de-risk agriculture and agribusiness financing in Nigeria, stimulating finance and investment into the Agricultural Value Chain.
