In a thrilling match, Nigeria’s senior female basketball team, D’Tigress, made history by defeating Canada 79-70 to reach their first-ever quarterfinals at the Olympic Games.
The team’s victory at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium in France marked a milestone for Nigerian basketball and African women’s sports.
D’Tigress trailed behind Canada in the second quarter but intensified their attack to lead 55-46 and ultimately secured the win.
Ezinne Kalu, the team’s point guard and three-time Afrobasket champion, was instrumental in the win, scoring 21 points.
