Nigerian business icon and philanthropist, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, has passed away at the age of 94.
A trusted family source confirmed that the elder statesman died in the early hours of Friday, June 28, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, following a brief illness. He was reportedly receiving treatment at a private hospital and died at about 3:00 am Nigerian time.
The family added that funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
Born on May 19, 1931, in Kano, Aminu Dantata was a towering figure in Nigeria’s economic and industrial development for decades. He played a pivotal role in expanding the legacy of the Dantata family business, becoming a key player in sectors ranging from construction and commerce to agriculture and philanthropy.
Widely respected for his contributions to Nigeria’s private sector, Dantata was also known for his generous philanthropic work across Northern Nigeria, particularly in the areas of education, healthcare, and religious development.
He is survived by seven children and numerous grandchildren, including Alhaji Tajuddeen Aminu Dantata.
