Newcastle United Launch £55m Bid for Anthony Elanga Amid Nottingham Forest’s Pursuit of Malick Fofana
Newcastle United have stepped up their efforts to sign Swedish winger Anthony Elanga with a massive £55 million bid, according to Fabrizio Romano, as the Magpies look to reinforce their attack ahead of a pivotal season. Manager Eddie Howe has made Elanga his top winger target, impressed by the player’s pace, direct style, and productivity at Nottingham Forest.
Elanga, 23, delivered an outstanding campaign under Nuno Espirito Santo, scoring 6 goals and providing 12 assists as Forest secured a return to European competition for the first time in three decades. His explosive ability in counter-attacking play has not gone unnoticed, with Newcastle scouts describing him as a perfect fit for Howe’s system.
After an initial £45m offer was rejected, Newcastle have returned with a fresh £55m (€64m / $75m) proposal — a figure that would make Elanga the joint-second most expensive signing in the club’s history, tied with Sandro Tonali and only behind Alexander Isak.
Talks are ongoing, with Newcastle reportedly “pushing to get it done”, although Forest’s response to the new bid is still awaited. Despite Forest’s previous insistence that Elanga is not for sale, the club’s activity in the transfer market suggests they may be preparing for his potential exit.
According to Romano, Nottingham Forest have agreed a deal with Lyon for 19-year-old Belgian winger Malick Fofana, a highly rated prospect. However, personal terms with the player are yet to be finalized, as Fofana reportedly awaits potential offers from Champions League clubs such as Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Napoli.
The move for Fofana may indicate that Forest are softening their stance on Elanga’s departure, though they may hold out for improved terms or a player-plus-cash deal.
According to TEAMtalk, Elanga is keen on joining Newcastle, grateful for his growth at Forest but eager for a new challenge — particularly the opportunity to play Champions League football. His representatives have already held multiple rounds of talks with Newcastle’s recruitment team, and personal terms are not expected to be an obstacle.
Newcastle previously considered including Harvey Barnes in the deal as a potential makeweight but are now focusing on securing Elanga with a straight cash offer. However, if Forest reject this latest bid, Barnes could still be used to sweeten negotiations.
With Chelsea having snapped up Joao Pedro from Brighton — another winger Newcastle were tracking — the focus at St. James’ Park is now fully on closing the Elanga deal. The Magpies see him as a key addition to help drive their continued ascent under Howe, following a League Cup victory and a growing presence in European football.
As Forest weigh their options and continue talks with Fofana, all eyes remain on whether they’ll eventually part ways with one of their star performers — and allow Elanga to take the next step in his promising career at Newcastle.

Lionel Messi Named in MLS Best XI as Galatasaray Eyes Four-Month Loan Move
Inter Miami superstar Lionel Messi has been named in Major League Soccer’s (MLS) Best XI after a record-breaking season amid reports linking him with a potential four-month loan move to Turkish side Galatasaray during the 2026 World Cup break.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner enjoyed a remarkable campaign, scoring a league-high 29 goals and providing 19 assists, becoming only the second player in MLS history to top both charts in a single season. His performances guided Inter Miami to one of their best-ever league finishes and earned him recognition as one of MLS’s standout players.
Messi was joined in attack by Denis Bouanga of Los Angeles FC and Anders Dreyer of San Diego FC, while Minnesota United’s Dayne St. Clair was named Goalkeeper of the Year and included in the Best XI alongside defenders Tristan Blackmon (Vancouver), Alex Freeman (Orlando City), and Philadelphia Union’s Jakob Glesnes and Kai Wagner.
In midfield, Sebastian Berhalter (Vancouver Whitecaps), Evander (FC Cincinnati), and Cristian Roldan (Seattle Sounders) completed the elite lineup, with six players St. Clair, Blackmon, Freeman, Roldan, Berhalter, and Dreyer earning their first ever Best XI selections.
Meanwhile, reports from Turkish media suggest that Galatasaray are exploring a short-term loan deal for Messi during the MLS off-season, which coincides with the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His representatives have reportedly proposed the arrangement, with Galatasaray said to be willing to cover his €10 million salary to bolster their UEFA Champions League campaign.
Neither Galatasaray, Inter Miami, nor Messi’s camp have issued official comments regarding the speculation. The Argentine star, who extended his Inter Miami contract through 2028, appears focused on maintaining top form as he continues to make history in American soccer.

Cristiano Ronaldo once again proved decisive as Al Nassr extended their flawless start to the Saudi Pro League season with a 2–1 victory over Al Fayha at Al-Awwal Park on Saturday night.
Ronaldo, 40, equalized in the 37th minute with a trademark header after Jason had given Al Fayha a shock lead in the 13th minute. With the game heading for a draw, the Portuguese superstar stepped up deep into stoppage time to convert a 104th-minute penalty, securing all three points for Al Nassr and preserving their perfect 8–0 league record.

Manchester United Rally to 2–2 Draw Against Nottingham Forest at City Ground
Manchester United fought back twice to secure a 2–2 draw with Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Saturday, marking exactly one year since Rúben Amorim took charge and extending their unbeaten run in all competitions.
The Red Devils started brightly and took the lead in the 35th minute through Casemiro, who headed home from a Bruno Fernandes corner to give United control of the game.
Forest, however, responded swiftly as Morgan Gibbs-White equalized with a composed finish before halftime, capitalizing on a lapse in United’s defensive organization.
In the second half, the hosts went ahead when Chris Wood struck in the 65th minute, punishing Diogo Dalot’s misjudged clearance.
United, determined not to lose, found their way back into the game through Amad Diallo, who unleashed a stunning long-range effort in the 78th minute to make it 2–2.
Despite United’s attacking pressure late on, Forest held firm, buoyed by a dominant midfield performance from Elliot Anderson, who recorded 14 recoveries and a 100% tackle success rate.
The result keeps Manchester United in second place on goal difference, while Nottingham Forest continue to build momentum under their new leadership.
