NBA, FIBA to Host 2025 Basketball Without Borders Africa Camp in Kigali
The National Basketball Association (NBA) and the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) have announced that the 2025 Basketball Without Borders (BWB) Africa camp will take place in East Africa for the first time. From August 23 to 26, Kigali, Rwanda, will welcome 60 of the continent’s top basketball prospects aged 18 and under to the Petit Stade.
BWB Africa serves as a key platform for nurturing young talent, offering participants elite-level training from current and former NBA, WNBA, and FIBA players, legends, and coaches. In addition to on-court skills, the camp emphasizes life skills, leadership, and social responsibility to help develop well-rounded athletes.
Clare Akamanzi, CEO of NBA Africa, expressed excitement about bringing the event to Rwanda:
“Basketball Without Borders Africa continues to provide a platform for top young players from across the continent to continue their development and reach the highest levels of the game. We look forward to bringing this year’s camp to East Africa at a time when there is incredible momentum around the game in the region.”
Rwanda has emerged as a leading basketball hub in Africa, hosting notable events such as the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 Pre-Qualifiers, Basketball Africa League (BAL) Playoffs and Finals, and the FIBA U-16 AfroBasket tournaments. Kimberley Gaucher, FIBA’s Head of Players Unit, noted that the choice of Kigali underscores the nation’s growing role in African basketball.
Nike, a global BWB partner since 2002, will outfit campers with the latest apparel and footwear.
Since launching in 2001, BWB has brought together more than 4,600 participants from 144 countries and territories, with 142 graduates advancing to the NBA or WNBA. African alumni include Joel Embiid of Cameroon, the 2023 Kia NBA Most Valuable Player; Pascal Siakam, 2019 NBA champion from Cameroon; and South Sudan’s Khaman Maluach, the 10th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.
