The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), in commemoration of the 58th anniversary of the Biafra declaration.
Led by Comrade Uchenna Madu, MASSOB highlighted the neglect and marginalization of the South-East region, citing exclusion from the Nigerian Student Loan scheme, lack of representation in key government agencies, and inadequate infrastructure.
“JAMB consciously and systematically frustrated the high average examination score of South eastern region students.
“No working seaport in the South-East zone.
“No South-East person among the senior officials of Nigeria National Petroleum Company, Federal Inland Revenue Service and Nigeria Customs Service.
“MASSOB condemns the heavy presence of Nigeria military and police checkpoints scattered across the South East zone.
“May 30th Biafra Day Anniversary Celebration is sacrosanct. The voluntary sit at home is our annual exercise for honour and remembrance of our fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters that suffered, massacred and sacrificed their existence for Biafra.”
The group condemned the heavy military and police presence in the region and reiterated its demand for Kanu’s release, describing May 30th as a day of introspection and self-examination for the people of Biafra.
MASSOB also called for a sit-at-home observance to honor those who suffered and sacrificed during the Biafran civil war.
