Former Dutch international, Ruud Gullit, has advised Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior to adopt Lionel Messi’s approach to handling challenging situations.

Gullit emphasized that the Brazilian should draw inspiration from Messi’s demeanor, particularly in dealing with adversity on the field. His comments come after Vinicius clashed with Valencia goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski during Real Madrid’s 2-1 LaLiga victory on January 3.

The altercation led to a straight red card for Vinicius in the 79th minute after he slapped Dimitrievski on the head. Referee Cesar Soto Grado explained in his report that the dismissal was for “deliberately hitting an opponent in the head without the ball in play, using significant force.” As a result, the forward has been handed a two-match suspension.

Speaking on Ziggo Sport, Gullit remarked: “I understand Vinicius feels wronged by the goalkeeper, but the same behavior applies to him. If you provoke your opponent, you can’t expect sympathy. Learn to keep quiet. Look at Messi – he faced constant fouls, yet he simply got up and continued playing.”

He added, “Vinicius keeps complaining, provoking, and even taunting rival fans. Naturally, this leads to consequences. I’m sure Real Madrid advises him against such behavior, but it seems he struggles to change.”
