Kebbi State Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, has called on Directors of Finance to maintain high standards of transparency, discipline, and integrity in handling public funds.

Speaking in Sokoto on Thursday at the opening of a four-day workshop focused on Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism, Tafida emphasized the importance of responsible financial management, aligning with Governor Nasir Idris’ commitment to good governance.

He reiterated the state government’s dedication to transparency and accountability, stressing its firm stance against financial misconduct.

Tafida praised the Office of the Accountant-General for its efforts in promoting financial discipline, which he said had greatly enhanced the state’s financial management framework.

“The responsibility of finance directors in protecting public resources is vital,” he said. “You must be alert and take initiative to prevent any financial wrongdoing.”

In his remarks, the State Accountant-General, Allah Bello Ibrahim, explained that the training aims to empower finance directors with the necessary skills and knowledge to combat financial crimes effectively.

He urged participants to contribute actively, share insights, and collaborate with key institutions to strengthen the fight against corruption.

Also addressing the gathering, Chairman of the House Committee on Finance, Adamu Mohammed, encouraged attendees to apply the training in fostering a more accountable financial system in Kebbi and promised legislative backing for improved budget oversight.
