Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has hit back at US President Donald Trump after his name was raised during a high-profile Oval Office meeting between Trump and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. Trump showed Ramaphosa a montage of video clips of Malema singing “Kill the Boer,” a song that has sparked controversy.
During the meeting, Trump claimed that a genocide was underway against white people in South Africa, forcing farmers to flee to the United States. He pressured Ramaphosa, asking why Malema wouldn’t be arrested for his song, saying, “Why won’t you arrest that man? That man said ‘kill the white farmers’ and then he danced and he’s dancing dancing.”
Malema’s Response
Malema swiftly responded on social media, saying, “A group of older men meet in Washington to gossip about me. No significant amount of intelligence evidence has been produced about white genocide. We will not agree to compromise our political principles on land expropriation without compensation for political expediency.”
Tensions Between Trump and Malema
This isn’t the first time Malema and Trump have clashed. Malema has been critical of Trump’s stance on South African issues, particularly regarding land expropriation without compensation. Trump has previously halted aid to South Africa over a law he claims allows land to be seized from white farmers.
