“I recorded half of my next album during visit to Nigeria” – US singer, Jon Batiste

Renowned American musician Jon Batiste has revealed that he has recorded half of his upcoming album during his recent 10-day trip to Nigeria.

The 37-year-old artist, supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, collaborated with various Nigerian artists and expressed his admiration for the country’s culture and cuisine.

Batiste, who has won five Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year for his 2021 work “We Are,” shared his experience at an event on Tuesday.

He highlighted the richness of Nigerian culture and his enjoyment of Jollof rice, stating, “The 10 days I have been here feels like a month… The flavors, you feel when you eat it, it is visceral.”

Batiste believes that music is spiritual and can create something greater than entertainment, which is why he feels called to be in Nigeria. He expressed gratitude to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for the opportunity, saying, “I do not even know what the future holds, I am just grateful.”

This trip marks another milestone in Batiste’s career, following his feature on Afrobeats artist Fireboy’s album “Adedamola.” Fans can look forward to his upcoming album, which promises to blend his unique style with the vibrant sounds of Nigeria.
