“I Never Collapsed” – Wike Lists Conditions for Reconciliation with Fubara

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed rumours suggesting he collapsed.

Speaking on Friday during the platinum jubilee celebration of Honourable Ken Chikere in Port Harcourt, Wike also outlined the conditions necessary for a true reconciliation with his former ally and current adversary, Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State.

Addressing the ongoing political unrest in Rivers, Wike stressed that he is open to peace but insisted it must involve all key political stakeholders and not be superficial.

“We are advocates of peace, not conflict. However, it must be a sincere peace, not a deceptive one. Members of the State Assembly, National Assembly, and leaders of the two major political parties must be part of the process,” Wike said.

He criticized elder statesmen for their silence, accusing them of enabling the crisis by failing to take meaningful action towards achieving lasting peace.

The FCT Minister also condemned what he called media blackmail tactics, warning that such methods would not resolve the political tension.

“No level of blackmail or humiliation will bring about peace. Only humility and a genuine commitment to the state’s welfare will,” he stated.

Wike, who served as Rivers State Governor before his appointment as Minister, also debunked viral claims that he had collapsed and was flown abroad for medical care.

Clarifying the situation, Wike explained that his recent overseas trip was solely to attend his son’s graduation ceremony.

“I am right here, healthy and strong,” he said confidently. “Someone concocted a story that I collapsed. I was never ill. And even if I were, am I not human?

“Those wishing others ill will ultimately face downfall themselves, and when they do, it will be final,” he warned.

His remarks come amid the ongoing feud with Governor Fubara, whom he had backed during the 2023 governorship race but later fell out with.

According to News men, the political conflict between Wike and Fubara has plunged Rivers State into an extended crisis, prompting President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in the state.
