How Chelsea Beat Southampton 4-0 to climb into top four in Premier League table

Chelsea repeatedly took advantage of Southampton’s woeful defending en route to a comfortable 4-0 win at Stamford Bridge.

The result lifts Chelsea back into the top four while Southampton remain in last place, two points shy of Derby County’s record low points total with 11 games left to play.

Christopher Nkunku opened the scoring for Chelsea in the 24th minute, heading home from point-blank range following a corner Southampton failed to deal with. Pedro Neto doubled the hosts’ lead 12 minutes later, slamming a near-post finish past Aaron Ramsdale.

Levi Colwill made it three for Chelsea just before half-time, heading home from a Neto free kick. Marc Cucurella put the game beyond any doubt with the fourth in the 78th minute, finishing off a clinical counter-attack.
