Five Arrested for Selling Two-Week-Old Baby in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended five individuals over the alleged abduction and trafficking of a newborn baby. The arrest followed a detailed investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

The case was initially reported on May 5, 2025, at the Ajah Police Division by a man concerned about the sudden disappearance of his 16-year-old cousin, Happiness, who was pregnant at the time. Due to financial difficulties, the complainant’s mother had placed the teenage girl in the care of one Nonye Osi.

Instead of offering assistance, Osi allegedly collaborated with others to move the girl to an unknown location. When she was later found, there was no sign of the baby or the pregnancy. The case was then escalated to SCID for a more in-depth investigation.

Detectives eventually discovered that the newborn had been sold for N3 million.

Those arrested include Nonye Osi, Akintan Adedayo, Jimoh Bashiru, Elizabeth Bishop, and Bukola Oladapo.

The baby was later traced and recovered in Agemuwo, Badagry, in a stable condition. The child is currently in the custody of the Gender/Anti-Human Trafficking Unit and will soon be reunited with his mother.

The Lagos State Police reaffirmed its dedication to protecting all residents and assured that all suspects involved in the crime will be prosecuted.
