The Nigerian government has announced the passing of Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff, who died at the age of 56 after a period of illness.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu confirmed the news, expressing his heartfelt condolences to the family and the Nigerian Armed Forces.
Lt. General Lagbaja had a distinguished military career spanning over three decades. Born on February 28, 1968, he enrolled in the Nigerian Defence Academy in 1987 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Nigerian Infantry Corps in 1992. He served as platoon commander in various battalions, including the 93 Battalion and the 72 Special Forces Battalion.
Lt. General Lagbaja is survived by his wife, Mariya, and their two children. President Tinubu wishes Lt. General Lagbaja eternal peace and honors his significant contributions to the nation.
