FBI offers $10,000 reward for Nigerian fugitive wanted in U.S. fraud case
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has offered a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest of a Nigerian man wanted on multiple fraud charges who fled trial more than two decades ago.
The FBI said on Wednesday night that Olumide Adebiyi Adediran is sought for violation of conditions of release after absconding from the Central District of Illinois in December 2001, shortly before his federal trial was scheduled to begin.
Adediran faces charges of bank fraud, identification document fraud and credit card fraud, which U.S. authorities say reflect involvement in financial crimes linked to organized efforts to defraud individuals and institutions.
By fleeing, Adediran is accused of violating the terms of his supervised release, a serious offense that highlights his classification as a high flight risk, according to the FBI.
The agency urged anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact local FBI offices or the U.S. embassy or consulate.
