EPL: Man City, Brighton Win as Man United, Chelsea, Liverpool Fall
Manchester City crushed Burnley 5-1 while Brighton, Brentford and Crystal Palace claimed big wins as Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool all slipped to defeat on Premier League matchday six.
City too strong for Burnley
Champions City overpowered newly promoted Burnley at the Etihad. Two own goals from defender Esteve, a brace from Erling Haaland and a strike from Matheus Nunes sealed a comfortable win.
Brentford shock United
At the Brentford Community Stadium, Brentford beat Manchester United 3-1 to record back-to-back league wins over the 20-time champions for the first time since 1937. Igor Thiago struck twice inside 20 minutes before Benjamin Sesko pulled one back. Mathias Jensen added a third after the break.
United slipped to 13th and pressure increased on coach Rúben Amorim, whose side have conceded first more than any other team in the league since his arrival.
Palace stun Liverpool
Crystal Palace ended Liverpool’s unbeaten start with a 2-1 victory at Selhurst Park. Ismaila Sarr scored early, Federico Chiesa levelled late, but Palace grabbed a stoppage-time winner for their first home success over Liverpool since 2014. The result left Palace as the only unbeaten team after six matches.
Chelsea fall to Brighton
In London, Brighton recovered from a goal down to beat Chelsea 3-1. Enzo Fernández’s header put the hosts ahead, but Danny Welbeck’s double and a late strike from substitute De Cuyper secured the win after Chelsea were reduced to 10 men.
Elsewhere
Leeds and Bournemouth shared the points in a 2-2 draw.
