EFCC Launches Investigation into Alleged N423 Billion Fraud Involving El-Rufai and Others

• EFCC investigates alleged N423 billion fraud involving ex-Kaduna Governor El-Rufai and others.
• El-Rufai to be summoned for questioning.
• Investigation based on NGO petition and Kaduna State House of Assembly’s Ad-Hoc Committee report.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has established a special task force to investigate the alleged mismanagement of N423 billion by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and top officials in his administration. The investigation is based on a petition from an NGO and a report by the Kaduna State House of Assembly’s Ad-Hoc Committee.

El-Rufai and other key figures, including former Finance commissioners, accountant generals, and chairpersons of the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS), will be summoned for questioning.

The scope of the investigation also includes former managing directors of the Kaduna Market Development and Management Company Ltd and Kaduna Roads Agency (KADRA), with the exception of Amina Ja’afar Ladan, who served for only a brief period.

According to a source, the EFCC’s Special Task Force has already held a session to discuss the petition and the House of Assembly’s report, which provides a solid foundation for the probe.

“We are in receipt of a petition from an NGO. So, we have started investigation in the matters raised in the petition.

“The report of the Ad-Hoc Committee of the Kaduna State House of Assembly is also handy. We will soon invite el-Rufai and some members of his team for interrogation.

“The Special Task Force on Monday (yesterday) held a long session on the contents of the petition and the report of the Ad-Hoc Committee.”

“The report of the House of Assembly has actually laid a solid foundation for the probe by our team.” A source told The Nation.

The investigation is ongoing, and El-Rufai and his team will be invited for interrogation soon.
