Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri is to lead a 110-man National Convention Organizing Comiittee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the party announced yesterday.

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke is the Deputy Chairman.

The announcement is coming after former Vice President Atiku Abubakar forces broke away from the party to pitch its tent with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

At its last National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, the party announced the timetable for the convention.

In a statement, the party’s National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba stated that the committee is mandated to coordinate the event.

The committee, which comprises prominent PDP personalities also has a former Minister, Alhaji Kabiru Tanimu Turaki as Deputy Chairman.

Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah is its Secretary.

Other members of the committee include the Chairman of PDP’s Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara, Acting PDP national chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, the Deputy National Chairman (South), Alhaji Taofeek Arapaja and the party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyawu.

Others include former Vice President Namadi Sambo, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, his Oyo State counterpart, Seyi Makinde and Bayelsa Governor, Douye Diri .

The list also includes the Secretary of PDP Board of Trustees, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, Governors Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), the suspended governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, Governors Kefas Agbu (Taraba) ; Dauda Lawal (Zamfara); former Senate President, Bukola Saraki and former Governor of Niger State, Aliyu Babangida.

“Sequel to the resolution of the National Executive Committee (NEC) to hold the 2025 elective national convention of our party on Saturday, 15th to Sunday, 16th November, 2025 in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, the following party members have been appointed as members of the 2025 National Convention Organizing Committee (Main Committee)” Ologunagba stated in the statement in Abuja .

Last week, the party inaugurated a zoning committee to allocate National Working Committee (NWC) positions to various geopolitical zones, and present its report for the approval of the National Executive Committee.

Chief Chekwas Okorie, the pioneer National Chairman and founder of All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, has cautioned Governor Charles Soludo over his attacks on Peter Obi.

Speaking in an interview, Chief Chekwas said it makes no political sense for Soludo to criticize Obi, stressing that such actions are only to Soludo’s disadvantage.

According to him:
“Peter Obi is no longer a local politician like Soludo but a national figure, a major player in Nigerian politics. Attacking him is like attacking Nnamdi Kanu or the late Odumegwu Ojukwu, leaders who already live in the hearts of the people.”

He advised Soludo to concentrate on his administration, warning that attacking Obi will not bring him more votes but instead reduce his chances in the coming Anambra governorship election.

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State took a swipe at former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, following the outcome of Saturday’s by-elections in the state.

Speaking on Sunday during a victory celebration in Nanka, Soludo said the results clearly showed that the Labour Party and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) are “dead” and “non-existent” in Anambra.

“ADC does not exist in Anambra. We showed it yesterday, Saturday. Labour Party is dead,” Soludo declared.

The governor mocked Obi, who had thrown his weight behind ADC candidates in the election, stressing that the opposition coalition failed woefully despite its attempt to test its popularity at the polls.

BY-ELECTION SHAME: ANAMBRA TREASURY TURNED INTO CASH BAZAAR

The Campaign Organization of Dr. George Moghalu and Hon. Mrs. Ifeoma Okaro notes with deep concern the boastful and misleading claims made by Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo in Nanka after Saturday’s by-election, where he arrogantly declared that Labour Party and its governorship candidate were “defeated” in his polling unit.

Ordinarily, such empty chest-thumping should be ignored. But silence breeds distortion, and Ndi Anambra deserve the truth, plain and clear.

The truth is this: Labour Party had no candidate in the by-election. INEC had already made it clear that Labour Party could not participate in the August 16, 2025 by-elections anywhere in the country not for House of Assembly and not for Senate. How then could Governor Soludo boast of “defeating” Labour Party? Was any Labour Party candidate published by INEC? Did anyone see Labour Party campaign or posters anywhere? Clearly, Soludo’s so-called victory is nothing but a stage-managed comic act designed to deceive the public.

Yet, even without participating in the election, Ndi Anambra still demonstrated overwhelming affection for Labour Party. In several polling units, voters openly demanded to vote for Labour Party despite its exclusion. This speaks louder than Soludo’s propaganda. It shows Labour Party is not just a political party, but the very heartbeat of Ndi Anambra —a people’s movement that cannot be silenced.

What played out on Saturday was not democracy but a bazaar of shame. The entire state watched as Anambra’s treasury was emptied to fund reckless vote buying, with reports of voters receiving up to ₦30,000 each. This rain of cash only proves one thing: APGA and its government have nothing to offer except desperation and deceit.

This by-election has become an eye-opener. A governor who chants “Solution is Here” could not win without sharing money. If indeed Soludo has performed, why did he need to squander billions to “prove” popularity? What credibility lies in a victory that was purchased, not earned?

Even worse, Governor Soludo now celebrates the “defeat” of a widow. Ndi Anambra must ask: what kind of leader spends billions just to humiliate a widow in an election? What kind of victory is this one without conscience?

And the bigger question: where is the security vote of Ndi Anambra? If billions can be released overnight to buy votes, why has Soludo failed to secure lives and property, fix our collapsing roads, revive hospitals, empower our youths with jobs, and restore hope in our communities? Why is there always money for vote buying but never money for governance?

Governor Soludo parades himself as a reformer and economist, but this election has exposed him as a reckless spender, a political trader, and a leader thriving on propaganda rather than performance. This is hypocrisy at its peak.

Let it be clear: Saturday’s by-election was no test of popularity. It was a one-sided drama because Labour Party did not participate. APGA should not deceive itself. November 8, 2025 will tell a different story because Labour Party has a sellable and capable governorship candidate. Ndi Anambra will speak decisively at the ballot box.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday declared Chief Emmanuel Nwachukwu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) winner of the Anambra South Senatorial District by-election held on Saturday.

Nwachukwu polled 90,408 votes to defeat Chief Azuka Okwuosa of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 19,812 votes, and Donald Amamgbo of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who got 2,889 votes.

APGA Secures Landmark Victories in Anambra By-Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday declared Chief Emmanuel Nwachukwu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) winner of the Anambra South Senatorial District by-election held on Saturday.

Nwachukwu polled 90,408 votes to defeat Chief Azuka Okwuosa of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 19,812 votes, and Donald Amamgbo of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who got 2,889 votes.

The poll, contested by about 16 political parties, was conducted to fill the vacant seat of the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah. Ubah, who was re-elected in 2023 on the platform of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), defected to the APC before his death in 2024.

With this victory, Nwachukwu becomes the first APGA member to win a senatorial election in Anambra South and only the second senator elected on the party’s platform in Anambra State, after Senator Victor Umeh’s 2018 Anambra Central rerun win. He is also the first politician from Nnewi South to occupy the position.

Similarly, INEC declared Barr. Ifeoma Mimi Azikiwe of APGA winner of the Onitsha North 1 State Constituency by-election.

According to the Returning Officer, Prof. Ibiam Ekpe of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Azikiwe polled 7,774 votes to defeat ADC’s Mrs Justice Azuka, who scored 1,909 votes. APC’s Mr Ezennia Chuka Ojekwe and YPP’s Ms Njideka Ndiwe polled 1,371 votes and 655 votes respectively.

Azikiwe will complete the remaining two years of the late Justice Azuka, who was abducted on December 24, 2024, and later killed. Her body was discovered near the 2nd Niger Bridge on February 6, 2025.

Upon inauguration, Azikiwe will join Hon. Nkechi Ogbuefi of the Labour Party (Anaocha 1 State Constituency) as the second female legislator in the eighth Anambra State House of Assembly under Speaker Dr Somtochukwu Udeze.

INEC commended the peaceful conduct of the polls and lauded voters for their turnout.

• Party says intimidating opposition through selective investigations are signs of dictatorship.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of carrying out selective investigations and behaving like a political hit squad for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The party warned that this dangerous trend is eroding public trust in the institution and undermining the real fight against corruption.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said the EFCC’s recent pattern of action, re-opening closed cases, digging up files from years past, and targeting members of opposition parties is not the work of an impartial anti-graft body. It is the work of a political enforcer.

In recent days, several senior members of the Opposition Coalition have received EFCC summons that are clearly politically motivated. These are not fresh cases arising from new evidence but new files opened in reaction to emergent political affiliations to intimidate key opposition figures.

The EFCC was created to be a fearless defender of the Nigerian people’s trust, applying the law evenly to all, friend or foe, ruling party or opposition. Today, that vision appears to have been compromised. The Commission now operates like a department of the APC, deployed to fight government critics and opposition figures thereby achieving what the government cannot achieve through public debate.

Meanwhile, we have observed how investigations into ruling party allies quietly fade away while opposition figures are dragged before the court of public opinion with sometimes decade-old allegations that have been hastily revived and dressed up as fresh evidence. This is selective prosecution, and selective prosecution is the death of justice.

It does appear that in today’s Nigeria, one’s guilt or innocence depends on one’s party membership, not evidence. For example, since a certain former governor defected to the APC with his state’s entire political machinery, the EFCC’s investigations into his administration have vanished from public view. Not a question has been asked. Not a document leaked. Not a single update. Yet the same EFCC still somehow find means to reopen old cases against opposition leaders and pursue the stale allegations against them.

It does not augur well for the EFCC if people think that all you need to point the accusing hands of the Commission in your direction is to stand opposed to the ruling party and all that it takes for protection is to align with the government. Unfortunately, this is the widely established perception in Nigeria today, which the commission by its recent actions, including the ongoing surreptitious harassment of opposition leaders, has given credence to.

The ADC hereby calls on all Nigerians, civil society organisations, and the independent media to resist this dangerous slide into dictatorship and misuse of public institutions to achieve partisan objectives. The EFCC does not belong to the APC. It belongs to the Nigerian people. It is funded by taxpayers, not the ruling party.
