Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, on Friday secured an 87-66 victory over Tunisia, marking their second win at the 2025 FIBA Afrobasket in Angola.
D’Tigers controlled the game from start to finish, outplaying the defending champions, Tunisia, who were coming off a loss to Cameroon. Nigeria surged ahead in the first quarter 29-16 and held a steady 19-17 lead in the second, fending off Tunisia’s efforts to close the gap.
The third and fourth quarters saw Nigeria maintain their dominance, winning 20-14 and tying 19-19, respectively, to secure a spot in the quarter-finals as they prepare for their final group match against Cameroon.
D’Tigers showcased sharp tactics, cohesive teamwork, and effective ball movement, overpowering Tunisia’s offense with a robust defense. Josh Okogie led Nigeria with 33 points, six defensive rebounds, and a 32 efficiency rating, driving the team’s commanding performance. His consistent play will be key as Nigeria eyes a deeper tournament run.
Tunisia’s Omar Abada and Yacine Toumi each scored 13 points, but their efforts fell short against Nigeria’s relentless defense.
In other matches, Angola defeated Guinea 84-68, Egypt outplayed Senegal 91-77, and South Sudan crushed Libya 115-52.
D’Tigers had kicked off their 2025 AfroBasket campaign in style, overpowering Madagascar with a commanding 77-59 victory in their opening Group B match.
