Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has expressed optimism that Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), will be released soon. Kalu assured that he is working tirelessly to ensure Kanu’s freedom, stating that “high-level underground dialogues with relevant authorities” are ongoing to secure his release.

Kalu’s comments were made during a meeting with the South East Legislators Forum in Abuja, where he emphasized the importance of unity and networking in achieving their goals. He also advocated for the South East Development Commission (SEDC) and stressed that the government means well for the Igbo people and Nigerians in general.

This development comes after Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, assured that President Bola Tinubu will release Kanu, recognizing the significance of his release in unveiling criminal elements exploiting IPOB to instigate chaos in the Southeast. Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of State Services since June 2021, facing treason trial after his arrest in Kenya and extraordinary rendition to Nigeria.
