DEFAMATION SUIT: “I’M NOT AFRAID OF ANY LEGAL ACTION, WE’LL MEET IN COURT” BAYO ONANUGA DARES PETER OBI
In a bold and defiant response, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Communication and Strategy, has accepted the challenge to face Peter Obi in court over alleged defamatory publications.
Onanuga’s statement comes after Obi’s legal team demanded a retraction and N5 billion damages over publications linking him to a planned mass protest in August. Onanuga’s response indicates his readiness to defend himself against Obi’s claims, setting the stage for a potentially explosive legal battle.
“I am not afraid of any legal action. We shall meet in court,” Onanuga said, dismissing Obi’s demand for retraction and damages.
The development has sparked interest among political observers, who see the legal battle as a test of the country’s judicial system and its ability to handle high-profile cases.

Obi’s legal team had argued that the publications damaged his reputation and undermined his integrity. However, Onanuga’s response suggests he is confident in his defense and willing to take the matter to court.
The case is expected to draw attention to the limits of free speech and the responsibilities of public figures in Nigeria’s political landscape. As the two sides prepare for a showdown in court, many are watching to see how the judicial system will handle the matter.
