Portugal and Real Madrid football star Cristiano Ronaldo has been named the recipient of the 2017 FIFA Best FIFA Men’s Player Award at Best of FIFA ceremony held in London.
The 32 year old player is regarded by many football fans as the best in the world with only Argentine forward Lionel Messi as the closest to him in acomplishment.
Ronaldo helped his national side win the 2016 European Championship then followed it with a double trophy haul for Real Madrid who won the Spanish league title as well as the UEFA Champions League.
In the year under review, Ronaldo scored 44 goals in 48 and won the award ahead of Messi and Neymar who finished second and third respectively.
‘Thank you a lot to the guys for voting for me,’Ronaldo said in his speech and also had kind words for his teammates and opponents. ‘I want to give a mention to Leo and Neymar to be here, Real Madrid supporters, my team-mates, my coach, my president – they support me all the year so I have to say thank you to them.’
