Deepening internal divisions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) escalated into violence on Tuesday as rival factions loyal to Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, and National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), clashed at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

The confrontation reportedly involved physical altercations between supporters of both factions, security scuffles, and the deployment of tear gas by operatives struggling to restore order at the Wadata Plaza headquarters.

Sources said supporters aligned with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed attempted to force their way into the party premises, prompting security personnel to intervene. The situation quickly deteriorated into chaos as loyalists from the Wike camp confronted them.

Amid the escalating tension, National Chairman Turaki abruptly postponed a crucial PDP meeting scheduled for the same day.

In an unusual international appeal, he called on U.S. President Donald Trump to intervene diplomatically to safeguard Nigeria’s democratic institutions amid what he described as “an assault on internal party democracy.”

Despite the turmoil, Turaki later returned to the secretariat under tightened security, insisting he remained in full control of the party’s administrative operations.

In a swift counter-move, the faction loyal to Wike announced the expulsion of key figures aligned with the Turaki bloc including Governors Makinde and Bala Mohammed while also dissolving several state PDP executive committees.

Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the National Secretary of the PDP Wike-led faction, read the names of 17 PDP members who were expelled:

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken sweeping disciplinary action at its 2025 National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, expelling several prominent members over what the party described as persistent anti-party activities.

Those expelled include former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, former National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, legal luminary Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, Hon. Austin Nwachukwu, among other notable figures.

The decision was ratified by an overwhelming majority of delegates in a dramatic session on Saturday, marking what party leaders say is a turning point in efforts to restore cohesion, discipline, and electoral readiness ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to sources within the convention, the expulsion was part of a broader strategy to “sanitize the party” and eliminate long-standing divisions that have hindered the PDP’s performance in recent elections. Party officials noted that the sanctioned individuals were found culpable of activities that undermined the party’s unity and electoral prospects.

A senior party official who spoke on the development said the convention’s resolution sends a strong message that “no individual, no matter how highly placed, is bigger than the PDP.”

As the convention continues, the party is expected to unveil additional reforms and new internal mechanisms aimed at strengthening its structures nationwide in preparation for what it anticipates will be a fiercely contested electoral cycle.

Former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has donated ₦10 million to the College of Nursing Science, Oluyoro, Ibadan, as part of his ongoing effort to strengthen Nigeria’s education and healthcare sectors.

During his visit to the institution on November 12, 2025, Obi emphasized the importance of investing in human capital to build a productive society. He said the donation was aimed at improving the college’s facilities and training resources for student nurses.

The contribution adds to his recent ₦60 million support to nursing institutions in Enugu and Anambra States over the past month.

Obi noted that Nigeria currently faces a severe nursing shortage, with only 16.5 nurses per 10,000 people, a figure far below the World Health Organization’s recommended standard.

“Today, Wednesday 12th November, in my continued support for the critical areas of development in our dear nation, including education, healthcare, and alleviating poverty, I visited the College of Nursing Science, Oluyoro, Ibadan.

I met with the students, faculty, and staff, and spoke to them about the critical role they play in shaping a healthier Nigeria.

In my commitment to supporting education and healthcare, I donated ₦10 million to enhance their facilities and provide better learning resources. I remain committed to supporting initiatives that empower Nigerians to reach their full potential.

Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, was on Sunday declared the winner of the November 8 governorship election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said the 65-year-old professor and candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) won after polling 422,664 votes.

Soludo’s closest rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), garnered 99,445 votes.

According to INEC, Soludo won in all the 21 Local Government Areas of the state in the election on Saturday, November 8.

Similarly, Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) came third with 37,753 votes, while John Nwosu of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) scored 8,208 votes.

George Moghalu of the Labour Party (LP) and Jude Ezenwafor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 10,576 votes and 1,401 votes, respectively.

The electoral umpire said that out of a total number of 2,788,864 registered voters, 598,229 were accredited for the election.

According to INEC, Soludo won in all the 21 Local Government Areas of the state in the election on Saturday, November 8.

It also said that of the total number of 595,298 votes cast in the election, 584,054 were valid while 11,244 were rejected.

According to the results released by INEC, Soludo won in Anaocha, where the 2023 presidential candidate of the LP, Peter Obi hails from, by securing 20,118 votes, while the LP got 483 votes.

The governor, who hails from Aguata LGA, garnered 35,559 votes in the area.

In Nnewi South, the LGA of the APC candidate, Soludo got 17,286 votes, while the Ukachukwu got 9,281 votes.

His highest number of votes came from Aguata — 35,559 — and the lowest from Anambra West — 9,318.

From political veterans to entrepreneurs and first-time contenders, here are the 13 major candidates seeking to unseat Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo in what promises to be a fiercely contested race.

1. Paul Chukwuma (YPP)

Paul Chukwuma, founder of Olivia University in Burundi and Pro-Chancellor of Benue State University, is the Young Progressives Party (YPP) candidate. A lawyer and former National Auditor of the ruling party, Chukwuma is known for his administrative and academic leadership experience. An ex-seminarian, he brings a blend of discipline, intellect, and governance expertise to the race.

2. Ezenwafor Jude (PDP)

Ezenwafor Jude, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is a real estate developer and trade consultant. He emerged as the PDP flag-bearer unopposed, receiving unanimous endorsement from 853 delegates. With extensive experience in governance, advisory roles, and global trade diplomacy, Ezenwafor promises to leverage economic partnerships to strengthen Anambra’s growth.

3. Geoffrey Onyejegbu (NNPP)

A retired Colonel in the Nigerian Army, Geoffrey Onyejegbu represents the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). He previously contested for the APC ticket in 2021 and later joined the Allied Peoples Movement (APM). His campaign emphasizes discipline, leadership, and security reform in Anambra.

4. Moghalu Nnadubem (LP)

Representing the Labour Party (LP), Moghalu Nnadubem hails from Nnewi North LGA. A seasoned technocrat, he once served as Director-General of the Bureau of Cooperatives and Rural Development in Abia State and later as Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA). 5. Chukwurah Vincent (SDP)

Vincent Chukwurah, candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), was born in 1954 in Anambra State. He holds a general high school diploma and previously ran for the Idemili North/Idemili South House of Representatives seat in 2023. His political agenda centers on grassroots empowerment and social reform.

6. Onyeze Charles (Accord)

Onyeze Charles, a philanthropist and businessman, was declared unopposed as the Accord Party candidate during the party’s primary election in Awka. Known for his charitable work in Anambra, Onyeze campaigns on transparent governance and social equity.

7. Nweke Japhet (AA)

Her campaign promotes youth inclusion, women empowerment, and transparent governance.

9. Nwosu Chuma (ADC)

Chuma Nwosu, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, is an economist and computer technologist from Nnewi. As CEO of Jetlink Group Ltd., an ICT firm with operations in Nigeria, Ghana, and Liberia, he advocates for digital transformation and private-sector-driven governance in Anambra.

10. Otti Echezona (APM)

Otti Echezona, candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), has a background in public administration and technical education. Aged 66, his campaign focuses on rural infrastructure, education reform, and value-based leadership.

11. Nweke Chukwudubem (APP)

Nweke Christopher Chukwudubem is the Action Peoples Party (APP) candidate, with Okeke Blessing Ebele as his running mate. His campaign stresses participatory governance and local economic development.

12. Okeke Jerry (Independent Candidate)

Okeke Jerry, from Ezinifite in Aguata LGA, studied Civil Engineering at IMT Enugu and Geological Science at UNIZIK. He later earned degrees in Linguistics, Law, and Public Administration.
As the founder of Edumail Publications Ltd., he has produced over 100 storybooks, 20 books, and 25 workbooks widely used in Nigerian schools, including NECO-approved materials. His campaign emphasizes education reform, literacy, and moral leadership.

13. Ukachukwu Nicholas (APC)

Ukachukwu Nicholas, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, is a businessman and politician from Osumenyi, Anambra State. Founder of SNECOU Group Limited, his conglomerate operates in oil and gas, real estate, agriculture, and media. A former Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) and House of Representatives member (1999–2003), Ukachukwu is positioning himself as a reform-minded candidate focused on economic growth and infrastructural renewal.
