Corps Marshal Orders Investigation and Prosecution of Passenger for Assault

The Corps Marshal has ordered an in-depth investigation into the latest assault on Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) personnel and immediate prosecution of a motorist who repeatedly assaulted the officers.

According to reports, the incident occurred on November 7, 2024, along the OKO-ADO Lekki Epe expressway in Lagos State. A Toyota Corolla with registration number EPE690HH was flagged down for seatbelt violation, and upon request for vehicle papers, it was discovered that the papers had expired since December 2022.

While the driver did not resist arrest, a female passenger became provocative, verbally assaulted the arresting marshal, and threatened to prosecute them for doing their job. The situation escalated to physical assault, which was captured on video.

The Corps Marshal commended the Unit Commander, Chief Route Commander AM Usman, and the entire staff of the Command for exhibiting high levels of professionalism and civility amidst the provocative actions of the motorist.

The Corps Marshal warned the motoring public to channel their grievances through proper administrative processes or take appropriate legal actions rather than taking laws into their hands. He also emphasized that justice will be served swiftly to deter other violent road users.

The incident highlights the risks faced by FRSC personnel while performing their duties. According to the FRSC’s list of offenses and penalties, assaulting a marshal on duty carries a penalty of 10,000 Naira and 10 points.
