The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), declared that the recent mass defection of a political coalition into the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has inadvertently fortified the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Describing the event as the “greatest factor” strengthening the ruling party, Keyamo emphasized that the defection has led to the formal fragmentation of the opposition, particularly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), once regarded as the strongest opposition party in Nigeria.
“Legally, They’ve Abandoned Their Parties”
According to Keyamo, the law prohibits politicians from operating within multiple political parties simultaneously, making the coalition’s open declaration for the ADC tantamount to complete abandonment of their previous affiliations. He warned that dual-party membership constitutes a ground for disqualification from future elections.
“It is safe to say that their open declaration for ADC today is a clear abandonment of their previous parties. Belonging to two political parties is a ground for disqualification in an election,” Keyamo stated.
Dismantling the PDP?
Keyamo noted that the defection signifies a power struggle within the PDP, where “Younger Turks” have reportedly wrestled control from the older political elite. He referred to the coalition gathering as a mix of “former this” and “former that”—a group he believes represents Atiku Abubakar’s faction, still intent on securing the 2027 presidential ticket.
“No matter how you look at it, this is just Atiku’s faction of the PDP in desperate search for the 2027 Presidential ticket – nothing more, nothing less,” he argued.
Peter Obi “Set Up for a Ride”
Keyamo also expressed concern for Labour Party’s Peter Obi, who he believes is being strategically courted by the coalition to harness his popularity—without the intention of handing him the presidential ticket.
“They want his votes, but don’t want to give him their Presidential ticket, because this is Atiku’s show simpliciter. That is why David Mark is the interim Chairman,” he claimed.
He questioned the logic of nominating Obi—who won the South-East and South-South in 2023—as a running mate to Atiku, who only won the North-East.
APC’s Position: Cleansed and Stronger
As for the inclusion of a few APC members in the ADC coalition, Keyamo dismissed their defection as inconsequential, describing them as those who “worked against President Bola Tinubu” or lost their constituencies in the 2023 elections.
“It is actually better for the APC because it is just a case of totally extracting the germ that was eating the cola nut from within.”
He contrasted the steady stream of governors, senators, and lawmakers joining the APC post-2023 with the few members leaving, saying this balance proves the APC remains the most united and dominant force heading into 2027.
Let’s Focus on Governance
Keyamo concluded his statement by urging Nigerians to allow all parties exercise their constitutional rights to freedom of association, but emphasized that the APC remains unshaken and better positioned for the future.
“For now, let us face governance and allow them exercise their constitutional right to associate and assemble.”
READ FULL STATEMENT
What happened earlier today with the movement of the so-called ‘coalition’ into the ADC is the greatest factor that has strengthened the APC ahead of the 2027 elections. Let me explain.
By law, you cannot operate from, or belong to, two or multiple political parties, so it is safe to say that their open declaration for ADC today is a clear abandonment of their previous parties. In fact, belonging to two political parties is a ground for disqualification in an election.
Therefore, the emergence of ADC as presently constituted marks the formal dismemberment of the PDP, hitherto Nigeria’s strongest opposition Party. Majority of the old guard in the PDP (who have apparently lost control of the Party) have been pushed out of the party by the Younger Turks within the PDP. That is why the gathering today was a conglomerate of ‘former this’ and ‘former that’ of the PDP. No matter how you look at it, this is just Atiku’s faction of PDP in desperate search for the 2027 Presidential ticket – nothing more, nothing less.
The other addition to the so-called ‘coalition’ is a sprinkling of APC members who actually worked against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the last election and one or two APC leaders who lost their constituencies to opposition parties in 2023. Their movement therefore takes NOTHING away from the APC. It is actually better for the APC because it is just a case of totally extracting the germ that was eating the cola nut from within.
The person who the old, cunning guards want to take for a ride in all of this is Peter Obi. They want his votes, but don’t want to give him their Presidential ticket, because this is Atiku’s show simpliciter. That is why David Mark is the interim Chairman. Those who know politics know what I am saying. But if you do not give Peter Obi the Presidential ticket, you lose his supporters. It is as simple as that. And how can you make someone who won two regions in the last election (South-East and South-South) a running mate to the person who won only one region (North-East)?
Therefore, when the dust settles, you will discover that PDP and the Labour Party have lost something, the ADC have only gained something like a caricature, but the APC has lost ABSOLUTELY nothing.
What this all means is that since the 2023 elections, the APC have become stronger, whilst the opposition parties have been fragmented and have become weaker. Those who have defected to the APC since 2023 (the Governors, Senators, Honourable members, etc) put side-by-side with a small handful who have left the APC, who would you rather have in your ranks? That is where lies the key to the whole analyses.
For now, let us face governance and allow them exercise their constitutional right to associate and assemble.

Manchester United End Anfield Drought with 2–1 Win Over Liverpool

Manchester United claimed their first victory at Anfield in nearly a decade as Ruben Amorim’s men edged Liverpool 2–1 in Sunday’s Premier League clash, marking a landmark result in the Portuguese coach’s tenure.
Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring early before Harry Maguire’s late header sealed the win after Cody Gakpo had levelled for Liverpool. The result handed United back-to-back league victories for the first time under Amorim and eased mounting pressure on the manager, who described it as “the biggest win” of his 11-month reign.
“I don’t have many wins with Manchester, so this is really important,” Amorim said. “It’s back-to-back, it’s at Anfield that is really important. Every detail of this game.”
Despite the significance of the triumph, the 40-year-old boss refused to get carried away.
“I want you guys (the media) to continue with the negative narrative that’s best for me,” he joked. “We need to try to win three games in a row and then forget about top-four talk. This doesn’t change anything; we are the same team we were 90 minutes ago.”
Amorim praised his players’ response after conceding. “When we suffered the goal, we managed that moment well that’s a key point for our team,” he said. “It wasn’t a perfect performance, but the spirit was amazing.”
He also hailed the travelling supporters who backed the team throughout. “It was really important for our fans, because they are struggling. Today they saw a different team. To come here, to this stadium, and sing during the game that’s massive for us. This win is for them.”

Ned Nwoko Gives Reason for Clash with Regina Daniels

Nigerian lawmaker and businessman, Senator Ned Nwoko, has addressed reports of a marital dispute involving him and his wife, Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, which have dominated social media in recent days.
In a viral video, Regina Daniels accused her husband of domestic violence, claiming she had fled their home due to repeated abuse. The clip has since sparked widespread reactions online.
However, Senator Nwoko has now denied the allegations, alleging that Regina has been battling substance abuse, which he claims is the root cause of their problems.
In a lengthy statement posted on Sunday, titled “Regina’s Unprovoked Carnage and Rampage in My House and in My Absence,” the senator accused the actress of violent behavior, including damaging property and assaulting domestic staff.
“Regina was not always like this. Her current battle with drugs and alcohol abuse is the root of our problem. She must continue her rehabilitation program, or I fear for her life and safety,” he stated.
Nwoko further alleged that Regina had attacked three members of staff and destroyed cars and windows in the house, insisting that none of his other wives had ever accused him of violence.
“Regina is the violent one here,” he said. “I have set a clear condition for her to accept rehab in Asokoro or outside Nigeria, especially Jordan, where she will not have access to drugs.”
He also claimed that while he took their son, Moon, to the hospital, chaos erupted at home, allegedly involving two of Regina’s “drug suppliers,” whom he identified as “Sammy” and “Ann.”
As of press time, Regina Daniels has not publicly responded to Nwoko’s statement.

16 Nigerian Military Officers Arrested Over Alleged Coup Plot to Oust President Tinubu

At least sixteen senior military officers have been arrested by the Nigerian Armed Forces over an alleged plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s administration, according to top security sources.
According to Sahara Reporters Although the military publicly described the arrests as disciplinary actions linked to “failure in promotion examinations” and “career stagnation,” insiders told reporters the detained officers were accused of planning a coup d’état.
The Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, confirmed the arrests but said they followed a “routine military exercise,” citing “indiscipline and breach of service regulations.”
However, intelligence gathered by the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) allegedly uncovered a plot led by a Brigadier General to “seize power from selfish politicians.” The officers, ranging from Captains to senior commanders, were reportedly picked up at various military formations across the country.
Sources added that the October 1 Independence Day parade was abruptly cancelled after authorities discovered the conspirators planned to strike during the ceremony, allegedly targeting the President and other top officials.
The detained officers are currently being held at the DIA facility in Abuja pending further investigation.
Nigeria has witnessed five successful coups since gaining independence in 1960. Analysts warn that rising reports of corruption, low morale, and political interference within the armed forces have continued to fuel discontent among some military personnel.
