My Children’s day Letter to School owners

“Dear School Owners, As we celebrate Children’s Day today, I write to remind you of the sacred trust placed in your hands.

The wards in your care are not just pupil or students, but precious lives entrusted to you by their parents. It is your responsibility to ensure their safety, well-being, and education.

Recent tragic events in Nigeria have highlighted the need for greater vigilance and accountability in our private schools.

The avoidable deaths of students in some private schools due to negligence, poor infrastructure, and inadequate supervision are a stark reminder of the consequences of our actions.

We cannot afford to forget the tragic incidents at schools like Dowen College, Lagos, and Premiere Academy, Abuja, where young lives were lost due to the failure of school authorities to provide a safe and secure environment.

As school owners, you have a moral and legal obligation to:

  • Ensure adequate security measures are in place to prevent unauthorized access to school premises.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy environment, including regular maintenance of infrastructure and equipment.
  • Employ qualified and experienced staff, and provide regular training and supervision.
  • Establish and enforce clear policies and procedures for student safety and well-being.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians, keeping them informed about their child’s education and any concerns that may arise.

Remember, the future of our nation depends on the children in your care. Let us work together to create a safe and nurturing environment that allows them to thrive and reach their full potential.

Let us honor the memories of those who have been lost and recommit ourselves to being responsible stewards of the precious lives entrusted to us.”
