The All Progressives Congress (APC) has confirmed Ali Bukar Dalori as its new Acting National Chairman, following the sudden resignation of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who stepped down from the role citing health concerns.

Ganduje, the former Governor of Kano State, tendered his resignation on Friday through a letter addressed to the APC’s National Working Committee (NWC) via the party’s National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru. In the letter, Ganduje expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the opportunity to lead the ruling party, adding that he needed to prioritize his well-being.

Ganduje’s resignation, which takes immediate effect, was announced by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.

In response to the development, President Tinubu reportedly directed Dalori, who previously served as the Deputy National Chairman (North), to assume the role of Acting Chairman pending the convening of an emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to appoint a substantive replacement.

Ganduje had assumed the APC chairmanship in August 2023, succeeding Abdullahi Adamu during a turbulent period marked by internal divisions within the party. His emergence had stirred controversy, particularly over alleged violations of the APC’s zoning principle, which originally allotted the position to the North Central region.

During his tenure, Ganduje faced mounting pressure from factions within the party and was also appointed as Chairman of the Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) in January 2025. Sources also suggest he is being considered for a non-career ambassadorial role.

Dalori’s appointment is widely seen as a move to restore internal stability within the APC ahead of key political events and the next NEC meeting.
