BREAKING: Supreme Court Dismisses Suit Seeking to Remove President Tinubu, Fines Plaintiff N5 Million

In a unanimous decision, a five-member panel of the Supreme Court has dismissed a suit seeking to remove President Bola Tinubu from office. The court also imposed a N5 million fine on the plaintiff, Chief Ambrose Owuru, the presidential candidate of the Hope Democratic Party (HDP) in the 2019 general election.

Owuru had alleged that President Tinubu was an active agent of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and had forfeited $460,000 to the US government in a drug-related case, making him unfit to hold office.

However, the Supreme Court panel, led by Justice Uwani Musa Abba-Aji, expressed disenchantment with Owuru, stating that he had filed a frivolous suit that had been dismissed three times. The court ordered the Registry of the Supreme Court not to accept any further frivolous suits from Owuru and threatened to forward his name to the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) for discipline.

This is not Owuru’s first time filing a frivolous suit. In 2023, he filed a suit claiming he was the valid winner of the 2019 presidential election and that President Muhammadu Buhari had hijacked his mandate.
