In a shocking turn of events, Benin Republic’s national team, the Cheetahs, secured a historic 2-1 victory over Nigeria’s Super Eagles in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. This win marks the first time Benin Republic has ever beaten Nigeria, leaving the Super Eagles’ World Cup qualification hanging in the balance.

Nigeria’s Struggles Continue

The Super Eagles, who drew with South Africa in their previous match, desperately needed a win but only managed to secure a temporary lead in the 25th minute with a goal from Raphael Onyedika. Benin Republic equalized in the 37th minute through Jodei Dossou, capitalizing on a defensive error by Nigeria.
