‘Ayo Babalola Had No Money’ — COZA’s Fatoyinbo Faces Backlash as CAC Fires Back
A recent sermon by Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA) has stirred controversy in Nigeria’s Christian community following remarks about the late Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola, the first General Evangelist of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC).
In his message, Fatoyinbo suggested that Babalola, a revered revivalist in Nigerian church history, “had no money” despite his spiritual impact. The statement has drawn sharp criticism from many believers who consider it disrespectful to the late apostle’s legacy.
Reacting to the comments, the CAC defended Babalola’s life and ministry, emphasizing that material wealth was never his pursuit. The church described the late evangelist as a man of deep faith and sacrifice whose legacy continues to inspire millions of Christians worldwide.
The debate has since spread across social media, with many Nigerians weighing in on the tension between spiritual calling and material prosperity in church leadership.
READ FULL RESPONSE FROM CAC
Dear Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo,
Greetings to you in the Name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Ordinarily, we do not respond to social media commentaries or controversies. However, we consider it necessary to address your recent statements, which have been widely circulated on your social media platforms, for the following three reasons:
- Scriptural Justification — The Bible permits us to respond wisely to folly to prevent arrogance (Proverbs 26:5).
- Clarification of Truth — To correct the misleading narrative you are promoting about ministry and wealth.
- Defense of Legacy — To address the inaccurate claims you’ve made regarding the life and ministry of Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola, the first General Evangelist of Christ Apostolic Church.
In one of your trending messages on YouTube, you acknowledged that Apostle Babalola was highly anointed but “had no money”, and then went on to ask sarcastically, “Where are his children?” — a question that was both insensitive and ill-informed.
To equate anointing or ministerial success with material wealth is biblically flawed. The words of Jesus are clear:
“Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.” — Luke 12:15.
Yet, your teachings suggest otherwise.
In doing so, you promote what the Bible refers to as Simony — the monetization of spiritual gifts (Acts 8:18–24). The Scriptures do not teach that money is a sign of anointing. Rather, “the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil” (1 Timothy 6:10). Which Bible do you read and preach from?
On the Question of Apostle Babalola’s Children
Ethically speaking, Apostle Babalola had children. Simple arithmetic should help you understand that they would be advanced in age by now — possibly your grandparents’ age. What did you hope to achieve with the mocking question, “Where are the children of Babalola?”
Your statement reflects more on the kind of company you keep, but as a preacher of the Word, shouldn’t your conduct and utterances be guided by Scripture?
Where in the Bible does your brand of prosperity theology originate — one that demeans people for not being wealthy? Isn’t such a message encouraging greed, corruption, and godlessness, especially in a nation already struggling with moral decay?
Setting the Record Straight
For the sake of truth and posterity, let me correct the public misrepresentations you’ve made regarding Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola:
- Calling
Apostle Babalola was called by God on October 10, 1928, at the age of 24. His ministry spanned Western and Midwestern Nigeria, and extended to the Gold Coast (now Ghana), marked by undeniable signs and wonders.
- Wealth and Lifestyle
He was blessed — but not materialistic or greedy. He gave lands to the Church, supported the education of many, fed the poor, and lived sacrificially. He housed more people than just his biological children.
When Queen Elizabeth II visited Nigeria in February 1956, Apostle Babalola was among the honored guests. Would a man in rags be granted such recognition by a colonial government? Certainly not.
He was no fundraiser, yet God supplied his needs. His diaries are filled with divine provisions like: “Ipese Olorun loni: £100.00, £50.00…”
He lived in a befitting home, drove one of the best Ford Jeeps of his time, and funded weddings, education, and apprenticeship programs — all without exploiting the pulpit.
- Family
His children — Mama Eunice Wuraola Ogini and Apeke Adeniyi — are alive, blessed, fulfilled, and quietly serving the Lord in their respective churches. They are not loud, ostentatious, or greedy.
- Legacy
Apostle Babalola’s anointing impacted generations. More than 66 years after his passing, his legacy continues to inspire and bless countless lives and ministries. That is true impact.
Let me pose a question to you:
When Peter said in Acts 3:6, “Silver and gold I do not have…” — was he still anointed or not?
I leave that for you to ponder.
- Conclusion
The measure of a believer’s anointing is not in material accumulation, but in sacrificial service.
“For the Kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” — Romans 14:17.
Jesus taught:
“Whoever desires to be great among you, let him be your servant… just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve.” — Matthew 20:25–28.
Once again,
“Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.” — Luke 12:15.
May God give us all the grace to rightly divide the Word of Truth, and to walk in humility, reverence, and godly wisdom.

Trump Excludes South Africa from 2026 G20 Summit in Miami
U.S. President Donald Trump has moved to exclude South Africa from the 2026 G20 Summit scheduled to take place in Miami, marking an unprecedented break in the group’s tradition of inclusive participation.
The development follows Washington’s high-level boycott of South Africa’s 2025 G20 summit, which the U.S. skipped over concerns related to violence against white farmers—a situation Trump has repeatedly described as a “genocide.” Fact-checkers and human rights monitors have rejected this characterization, noting that while farm attacks remain a serious security issue, there is no evidence of a systematic campaign of extermination.
South Africa has strongly disputed Trump’s claims, including his account of how the G20 presidency was transferred. Officials in Pretoria say the U.S. delegation had already opted to stay away from the summit, with the eventual handover occurring through an embassy representative rather than formal high-level participation.
Although the G20 operates without strict rules that authorize the exclusion of member states, Trump’s decision raises new questions about the organization’s cohesion ahead of the U.S.-hosted conference. Germany has already urged Washington to ensure South Africa’s inclusion, warning that sidelining a member could undermine the group’s credibility.

The move could also affect U.S.–South Africa relations more broadly. Annual American assistance to Pretoria estimated between $100 million and $500 million may now face political scrutiny.

Enugu State authorities have arrested a 30-year-old man and several others in connection with the illegal marriage of a 13-year-old girl in Amufie, Enugu Ezike, Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area.
The Enugu State Police Command, working alongside the Ministry of Gender Affairs, confirmed that all key actors involved in the unlawful marriage have been taken into custody. Those arrested include the underage girl, the man she was married to, her parents, and a woman identified as Ezenwanyi, who was allegedly instrumental in facilitating the marriage ceremony.

CINY said in its statement.

USA: Two National Guard Members Shot Near White House, Remain in Critical Condition
Two West Virginia National Guard members were shot Wednesday just two blocks from the White House in what authorities are calling a targeted attack. The soldiers remain alive and in critical condition, FBI Director Kash Patel said.
West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey initially announced the soldiers had died but later retracted the statement, saying his office was “receiving conflicting reports.” Local officials also confirmed the troops were hospitalized in critical condition.
A suspect, who was taken into custody, was also shot and sustained injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening, according to law enforcement officials who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
“This is a targeted shooting,” Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser said, noting that investigators are reviewing surveillance footage.
Exchange of Gunfire
According to officials familiar with the investigation, the suspect walked up to the soldiers and opened fire. At least one of the Guardsmen returned fire. Authorities are still working to determine the shooter’s motive, including whether the troops were specifically targeted.
The shooting unfolded on a busy street near the White House. Videos posted to social media showed first responders performing CPR on one soldier as another received treatment on a shattered, glass-covered sidewalk. Police officers were seen restraining a suspect nearby.
Witness Account
Stacy Walters, who was in a car near the scene, said she heard two gunshots before witnessing people running. “It’s such a beautiful day. Who would do this, and we’re getting ready for the holidays?” she said.
Emergency responders transported all three injured individuals to a hospital, according to DC Fire and EMS spokesperson Vito Maggiolo.
Ongoing Tensions Over Guard Deployment
The National Guard’s presence in Washington has been a contentious political issue for months. In August, more than 300 West Virginia Guard members were deployed to the capital following an emergency order by President Donald Trump, who federalized the local police force. Although that order expired, many troops remained on the streets.
Last week, a federal judge ordered the Guard deployment to end but paused her ruling for 21 days to allow the Trump administration time to comply or appeal.
Reactions From Leaders
President Donald Trump, speaking from Florida, vowed that the gunman “will pay a very steep price,” calling the attacker an “animal” in a statement on Truth Social.
Vice President JD Vance, addressing troops at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, urged Americans to pray for the wounded soldiers. “It’s a somber reminder that our soldiers… are the sword and the shield of the United States,” he said.
Mayor Bowser, who earlier in the day announced she would not seek reelection, said her administration is actively monitoring the situation.
Heavy Police Presence
The shooting scene was locked down with police tape as emergency lights flashed overhead. Agents from the Secret Service, FBI, and ATF responded, and at least one helicopter landed on the National Mall while Guard troops secured the perimeter.
The investigation remains active, with officials reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses as they work to determine the suspect’s motive.
