The coronation of Abimbola Owoade as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo was a grand celebration of culture, tradition, and community. Owoade’s ascension to the throne came after a 35-month wait, bringing an end to a period of uncertainty.

The coronation ceremony, held at Oliveth Baptist High School in Oyo, was officiated by State Governor Seyi Makinde. Owoade succeeded the late Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, the 45th Alaafin of Oyo, who passed away on April 22, 2022. Before his coronation, Owoade completed the traditional 21-day Oro Ipebi rites on March 29, 2025.
