Akwa Ibom Women Protest Invasion Of Assembly, Demand Sack Of CP

Women in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, are currently protesting the invasion of the state assembly by sacked lawmakers.

We reported earlier that five recently sacked lawmakers were escorted into the Assembly complex on Tuesday morning by thugs and men of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) who chased staff out of the complex.

Reacting to the development, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) called on Nigerians to rise in “condemnation of this heinous crime”, adding that the sacked lawmakers were sponsored by the former governor of the state, Godswill Akpabio to invade the assembly.

This online news medium had also reported that normalcy later returned to the Assembly. This came after the five lawmakers led by Nse Ntuen, who declared himself speaker, were forced to flee the complex.

The lawmakers, this online news medium gathered, flee the complex on hearing the arrival of the governor of the state, Udom Emmanuel and speaker Luke Onofiok to the assembly.

Reacting to the development, Governor Emmanuel had on Tuesday, during a press briefing, called for the redeployment of the state commissioner of police, Musa Kimo for purportedly aiding “siege” on the assembly.

Apparently displeased by the “siege”, women across the 31 Local Government Areas of the state, led by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Dr Glory Edet, have now taken to the street to protest, demanding the sack of CP Kimo over the invasion.

The women black attire carried placards with various inscriptions such as “Musa Must Go”, Musa Don’t Unleash Lawlessness in AKS Go For Peace To Reign” amongst others.
