Fuel scarcity hits Enugu over tanker drivers’ protest

Fuel scarcity has hit Enugu State as a result of non-supply of premium motor spirit by petroleum tanker drivers.

It was learnt that the tanker drivers have refused to supply fuel since Thursday, after a tanker apprehended by men of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps reportedly crashed into a filling station and caught fire.

It was gathered that petroleum marketers in the state are demanding the payment of damages for the incident.

They are insisting that the damages should be paid by the Federal Government or the state government, and decided to go on strike to press home their position.

As a result of the development, majority of the filling stations in Enugu are not selling fuel as of now.

It was further gathered that the government had not responded to the action taken by the marketers.

The development has caused serious hardship to motorists in Enugu, who now spend hours in the queues at the few filling stations that still sell the product.

But the plight of the motorists has also been compounded by the steady rise in the cost of PMS, which was occasioned by the scarcity.

A litre of fuel is currently sold for N200 or N250 at the few filling stations that are selling to motorists.
